On it, I use the Plex Server app and the QNAP Virtualization Station app to host a Windows 10 Pro virtual machine, on which I run Sonarr, Jackett and Deluge.īecause of the QNAP's CPU, it all runs a bit sluggishly, but it's still fine for my needs.

I eventually upgraded its stock 2 GB RAM to its max supported of 16 GB. When I personally sought out options a few years ago, I ended up getting a QNAP TS-563 NAS with 5 x 4TB HGST 7200 RPM hard drives. A lot of this you're going to have to figure out on your own and experience trial-&-error until you accomplish your ideal setup. I can't really point you in a particular direction in terms of a step-by-step guide. I'm sure I haven't provided all the info you guys would need to help me here so please let me know what I've missed. I don't really have a budget but wouldn't want to spend more than $1000-$1500 or so. Ultimately I'd like something that fits in the space of the case above that can handle at least 20TB of storage (those 4k, HDR rips are brutal!) and maybe not be hot-swappable but at least easy to replace failing drives. I don't think I'll ever use this server for anything much beyond what I'm currently using it for (central storage, usenet, sonar-type apps) so I'm afraid most of what you guys discuss here is overkill. Am I really rolling the dice by continuing to run the old processor and motherboard? I thought it was a 64bit OS but maybe that doesn't matter. Am I maxed at 2TB drives if I replace some/all? I searched all over the place for that old chipset and couldn't find an answer. I couldn't find the memory or hd's but I think there's 16gb in there and about 6TB total over 4 1.5TB "green" WD drives. Here is the hardware I could still find (shocked these links are still live): It's been working perfectly for 9 years but I think one of the hard drives is finally failing. I quickly "upgraded" it to run SABNZB and Sickbeard (and eventually Sonarr). So please feel free to point me somewhere else.īack in 2011 I built a Windows Home Server (2011) machine mostly as central storage for my house but also for it's automated backups of clients and my general familiarity with Windows. Based on what I've read her over the past week or so, I'm not 100% sure this is the right place for this.
